Reset Cascading Dropdown

I have a set of cascading dropdowns that I need to be able to programatically reset via javascript. I can change the selectedIndexes but that doesn't change any of the data "behind the scenes".

Thanks

Hi

Doesn't change any of the data "behind the scenes", What you mean?

Would you please post some code,so I can reproduce the problem and resolve it more quickly?

Thanks

As I have seen it for three cascading drop downs there are also three hidden form fields that contain data. My specific scenario was modifing some existing code that utilized three drop downs. The application was a store selector. The user could type in a postal code or use drop downs (Country, Region, City). I needed to reset the drop downs if a user types in a postal code. Setting up the blur event on the postal code text box was simple enough. But getting the drop-downs to reset was more challenging. I originally trimmed the item list down to the first item (please select). However on postback the original drop down selections came back. What I ended up doing was triming the item list and resetting the "hidden" fields to ":::" which is what the starting state appears to be.

There has to be an easier way to reset the drop downs to thier default state (via javascript). If the user simply sets the first drop down to the 0 index all drop downs reset. However, using using JS to set the selectedIndex property doesn't cause the client side event to fire.

Hopefully that helps a little. I am probably just missing something obvious. Is the client side JS code documented anywhere?

Resolving <%=MyControl.ClientID%> in a clientside Script which is loaded via ScriptM

Hi experts and developers!

I have a problem using the <%=MyControl.ClientID%> syntax to resolve controls when using clientside script. I really need this functionality though because the control of which i need the clientside id is generated (and dynamically named) by a third party control (DataGrid) I use.

How is it possible to find out the ClientID of a control when the clientside script is loaded via ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptInclude()?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Greetings,
Wolfgang

hello.

i think i'm not understanding your question very well. MyControl.ClientID gives you the ID of the client...maybe you just need to concatenate it to the rest of the string that is being register as script so that it works...can you show us the code where you're having the problem?

Hi Luis!

Your solution sound absolutely reasonable, but as i use a separate JavaScript File, the <%= %> syntax won't work. And also it does not sound to practicable to change the JavaScript file at runtime (all the time, because the ClientID of the controls changes).

I found a solution already though: I'm just using ClientScript.RegisterArrayDeclaration(MyClientID, myControl.ClientID) on Page_PreRender()... After that I can access the ClientID in my JavaScritp File just via MyClientID[0] as it is a normal js array.

Thanks for the reply!
Wolfgang

hi.

i'd do something like that too if i had the script in a separate file (which is really the recommended approach for script files:))

Response.redirect - display text in same page.

Hi guys,

I am using A.aspx , B.aspx and C.aspx pages.

From A.aspx I am calling b.aspx via Ajax code. After (Check Login user from database) success status , I am tryint o redirecting to C.aspx. But

C. aspx page content is dispalying in A.aspx. It suppose to be redirec to C.aspx. What I am dong wrong here..??

any suggessions ??

hello.

well, i'mo not following you. can you be more specific?

I am trying to check the Loginuser permissions from the Database. Once he get success permission the page has to redirect to new page.
here is my Code.

Login.aspx (a.aspx) - Enter user id & pwd and click Submit then below code executes

function CheckUser()
{
if (preLoginCheck())
{ var url = serverName+"checkLogUser.aspx?userID="+ document.frmDefault.txtUid.value +"&Pwd="+ document.frmDefault.txtPwd.value;
xmlHttp = GetXmlHttpObject(ChangeHandler);
xmlHttp_Get(xmlHttp, url);
}
}

function ChangeHandler()
{ if (xmlHttp.readyState == 4 || xmlHttp.readyState == 'complete')
{ var getData=xmlHttp.responseText;
if (getData=="Success")
{ document.getElementById("ErrorCode").innerText=" GoooooooooooooooD";
}
else
{
document.getElementById("ErrorCode").innerText=getData; //" Invalid User name /Password";
}
}
}

checkLogUser.aspx (b.aspx) - Ajax will execute this page from here itself I want to redirec to Third Page..

If (tmpUserID <> "" And tmpUserPwd <> "") Then
crapObj = New CRAPManagement
getLogInStatus = crapObj.checkLoginUserAccess(tmpUserID, tmpUserPwd)
If getLogInStatus = "Success" Then
Response.Redirect("UserCreate.aspx") --> C.Aspx
Else
Response.Write(getLogInStatus)
End If
End If

Finanl result is C.Aspx page content is displaed in Login.aspx Page.

hello.

well, if you're using asp.net 2.0, then check the authenticationservice class:

http://www.asp.net/ajax/documentation/live/ClientReference/Sys.Services/AuthenticationServiceClass/default.aspx

Hello,
I could't understand wha should I do exactly...!

hello.

well, instead of writing your own code for making the remote call and then having to build your page on the server that has server logic for authenticating a user, you'll get that for free with the service i've showed you in the previous post (it'll authenticate by using forms authentication and it'll automatically use the current defined membership provider you've set up on the server side).

Return a DataTable with Webservice and Bind via JavaScript

I am using a Webserivce method that returns a DataTable and in JavaScript I have this:

function pageLoad() {
ret = Dashboard.FetchQuadOne(OnCompleteOne, OnTimeOut, OnError);
ret = Dashboard.FetchQuadTwo(OnCompleteTwo, OnTimeOut, OnError);
}

function OnCompleteOne(result) {
document.getElementById('div1').innerHTML = result;
}

If I have my Webservice method, FetchQuadOne return a DataTable, how can I bind that to a GridView using JavaScript? Or is there a way to do this in the code-behind of my .aspx page? I guess I could just build an html table in my webservice method and return that, but it would be mugh each easier to bind the DataTable to a GridView.

I don't see how this could work, a DataTable is a .NET specific object. Javascript has no knowledge of how to consume that or for that matter any knowledge of how to bind to a .NET Datagrid. You could return xml or JSON and bind to some other data structure using XSL or roll your own.

Yeah, that is what I was afraid of. I thought maybe there would be someone way to put the JavaScript in the code-behind page and somehow bind the DataTable to a GirdView. I wanted all the built-in features of the GridView, like sorting and formating. O- well. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't possible before I head down an ugly road of building the table on the fly with the data.

Thanks.

Hi,

I think this article ofKazi Manzur Rashid can help you:http://dotnetslackers.com/articles/ajax/ASPNETAjaxGridAndPager.aspx

This article will show you how to create an AJAX Grid and a generic pager, which mimics the built-in GridView control on the client side.

Best Regards,
