result from web service is what type/object?...

Hi ALL,

At first i was using older version of the AJAX toolkit and the Sys.Net.WebServiceProxy Class was not set. I was getting an error trying to run the posted samples...

Next, i got the latest RC version and updated my toolkit. So far, everything seems to be working great, except the part when the web service result comes back (in the OnSuccess method).

Following the samples, instead of the actual string result i see XML Object. I mean from a simple web method "HellowWorld() as string", instead of a string i see XML Object.

I tried alerting the result.xml, assuming it is of XMLDom object and that is what it is?... Should this be JSON parsed value vs actual XMLDom.

I mean if the webservice returned a stirng, result should be a string, if the web service returned an object with properties A and B, i should be able to access it like this: alert(result.A), and e.t.

Any thoughts will be appreciated!

In my case, instead of actual server time string for example for example i would see "[object]"...

This object returned is the XMLDom corresponding to the result which i could certainly use and go further with my development, but i am afraid that this may not be the right way. According to the documentation, the result should be the actual object returned from the web service, in this case a string...

You didn't happen to put a ScriptMethod attribute on your web service method to change the ResponseFormat from the default of JSON to XML, did you?

I have a checkbox, a dropdownlistbox and a label in 3 separate update panels.

I have autopostback=true for both checkbox and dropdownlist box and write to the label text in their eventhandlers. The checkbox event when fired writes as expected but not the dropdownlistbox.

I have a class called myclass with a string property called "abrev". I want to remember the complete myclass between postbacks. I think there is something called session to do it...but can someone help me on how to do it in the below code?

Session Variables are what you want. They are are read/write like any other variable, except they persist in memory on the server for the duration of the visitors session. They are also simple to use:

Session["myvar"] = "var";
Response.Write["myvar"]; //will outputvar

I am a little new to the world of programming and computers as such (not a SW professional). Can you please tell me how to store a complete class?

Secondly, where should this session be defined= in pageload? and also when there is a postback?

lastly, I want to be able to change any property of myclass in the code behind when events happen...do these changes automatically take place in the session..

for example...if I change myclass.Abrev (in my example) for a button click event for example then are the session variables updated automatically?

Rounded corner divs

Is it possible to use the RoundedCornerExtender on divs? I got it to work on my panel, but for some reason my panels don't take the CSS class I assign them to.

Yes, asp:Panel just maps to DIV in HTML anyway.
